More than 1 out of 2 Employees Want Out!
July 8, 2009 by admin
A new survey out from Adecco Group estimates that 54 percent of the workforce want out of their jobs and will look for another the minute the economy turns around. For Gen Y, the number rises to 71 percent. These findings should set off warning bells in the C-Suite of every company from coast to coast. How can you expect to pull your company out of an economic depression if more than 1 out of 2 of your employees can’t wait to leave? Along with the “I can’t wait to leave” workview comes lack of commitment, little or no creativity and significantly less productivity. Only those companies who understand how the meaning of work is evolving and how it is reconfiguring the values of the American worker will be able to turn this negativity around.
Employees want to matter. Employees want to have a chance at the wheel and drive for a change instead of simply being passengers in the backseat–or worse–locked in the trunk where their voices are completely silenced. Look at who your employees are and how you can leverage their unique abilities to the advantage of your company. Leave the industrial age behind and create employee driven, process-centered environments instead of product-centered environments. When today’s employees are empowered to make an imprint on their environment, they will be clamoring to stay in instead of get out. Then watch how the end “product” becomes better than ever. It’s a lifeline out of these terrible economic times if companies would only reach out to grab it. Almost Famous rip
